Strive to leave a footprint of fruitfulness

God has ordained you to be fruitful irrespective of your geographical location, race, gender or social status. The bible admonishes us over and over again to be fruitful and that anything (anyone) that is not is cursed. Jesus died for us so that we may be fruitful. He became a curse so that we may be blessed and poor so that we may be rich.

Jesus says, “I am the true vine and my Father the vinedresser. Every branch that does not bear fruit is taken away and the one that bears fruit is pruned and taken care of so that it may bear more fruit” (John 15:1-2). God protects and takes care of those who bear fruit because he is glorified and it is his plan and purpose for them to be fruitful.

The branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine. If you abide in him, you will bear much fruit because without him, you can do nothing! If anyone does not abide in him, he is cast out as a branch and is withered and thrown into the fire and is burnt. God has chosen and appointed you so that you can go and bear fruit that endures and lasts long, outlives you.

Be active

“If you abide in him and his word in you, you will ask whatever you desire and it will be done for you” (John 15:7-8). Your prayers will be answered because you are fruitful. The book of Genesis teaches us important foundations to live by: “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air and everything that moves on the earth.” (Genesis 1:28).

God takes the responsibility of your life by choosing, separating, sanctifying and setting you apart so that you can be fruitful. You must therefore be active both physically and spiritually (cultivate, sow and harvest) and not just lazily lie idle. Bearing fruit proves that you are healthy, devoid of deformities or sicknesses and illnesses. Imagine the impact that would result if each one of us were fruitful!

Victory over haters

Why should we be fruitful? First, it is evidence that you are born again. As a believer, when you lead someone to Christ, you are bearing spiritual fruits.

You are known by your fruit, which tells a lot about you. Just like a grape tree bears grapes and an orange tree bears oranges, a grape tree cannot bear oranges or an orange tree bear grapes!

Second, it is evidence of overcoming chockers of this world. To choke is to block or obstruct or suffocate to death. Fruitfulness is a statement of your victory over sorcerers, naysayers, haters, obstacles and jealous people who try to stop you from bearing fruit.

Third, it is evidence of overcoming the schemes of Satan. The thief or devil comes to steal, kill and destroy but Jesus came so that we may have an abundant (fruitful) life (John 10:10).

You must constantly pray to overcome principalities, powers of darkness and evil schemes meant to keep you down and unproductive.

Fourth, it is evident that your land (life) is not dormant. Many people are just there, not reproducing or progressing, stagnant. The bible admonishes us to sow righteousness and reap in mercy; to break up our fallow ground, for it is time to seek the Lord, until he comes and rains righteousness on us. If you do your part, God will do his by blessing the work of your hands.

Fifth, it is evidence of maturity. Maturity is characterised by fruitfulness. Babies cannot bear children. It is adults or mature people who do. Apostle Paul says, “When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things” (1st Corinthians 13:11).

It is my prayer that wherever you are, in everything you do, whatever you touch, you will prosper and leave a footprint of fruitfulness on earth.
