6 simple and frugal ways to keep your house smelling fresh.

Your Home

With the temperatures dropping, you could be encouraged to keep your windows and doors closed to keep warm. With all that is happening inside the house, showering, cooking and probably cleaning, there are accumulating scents that mix and stay in when you don’t open windows which end up getting absorbed into surfaces and upholstery. You might notice this only once you get back into the house.

So we have come up with tips to help keep your house smelling fresh all day long:

1. Open your windows:

The simple act of opening the windows to let the natural air in is the most efficient and easiest way to ensure your house smells fresh. There might be not much wind blowing over the cold season but it does make a difference. However, you have to help the situation with taking the trash out and cleaning the house often.

2. Air all dump garments:

The kitchen cloth, bathing towel or the mop and everything else that gets in contact with water, needs airing to avoid the unpleasant damp smell. Give your laundry time to dry completely too before bringing it in.

3.  Bring the fresh flowers in:

As cliché as this might be, fresh flowers do add a therapeutic natural scent to the ambience. Roses, lilies, Lila, peonies or whatever you like really, there are varieties of assortments to choose from.

4. Light scented candles:

 Scented candles

With a wide range of artificial scents to choose from, sizes and reasonable pricing you should never run out of choice. A sizable candle should last you until 20 uses. You could light the candle and let it burn for about 20 minutes then switch it off and let the scent waft the house.

5. Use a hint of fabric softener:

When cleaning the house or dusting the surfaces. You will notice it leaves a faint in your surrounding for a while, maybe a day or two. The results are even better if you use fabric softener on your clothes as well. Only use this if you are not allergic to it.

6.  Use dried rose petals as potpourri:

When the roses have withered, remove them from the vase, pluck the petals and place them on a bowl and discarding the stems. Crush them a little and place them on a neat bowl either in a central place in your house. Not only do they smell good, but they also look good when thoughtfully placed.
