Cris Njoki is the name and face behind the renowned made-in-Kenya clothing brand IKOJN, a brand she started seven years ago.
"When I finished school, I did not know what I wanted to do. I started thrifting and used a sewing machine that my dad had bought me when I was 13. He encouraged me to venture into the clothing business as he could see that I had a passion for it," she said in an interview.
She did thrifting for about a year and a half and from this, she got the capital to start IKOJN.
"I was looking for something unique when it came to the name of my brand. I finally settled on IKOJN, which is my name spelt from the back. The J is silent," she said.
Her brand has grown in leaps and bounds since it came into existence. She admits that she has gained a lot of knowledge from YouTube, mostly on content creation, which is her area of expertise.
Social media has played a big role in her business's growth.
IKOJN opened its first store at Westgate Mall.
"We launched it after the Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns. Our clients requested to have a physical store where they could easily walk in and feel the different fabrics. Westgate is a good location as it is easy for our customers to find us," she said.
