A Magistrate has today postponed plea taking for a woman who was presented before her while drunk.
Sharon Oparanya was presented before Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Nanzushi on allegations of driving under the influence of alcohol.
At the traffic court in Milimani, Nanzushi postponed the plea taking to Friday until Oparanya gets sober.
In court, Oparanya was sleeping on the bench while snoring loudly while the court session was on.
Her snore interrupted other matters that were being handled in the court to an extent that when her name was called for her to take a plea, she did not hear.
The Magistrate ordered that Oparanya be detained at Langata Women's prison until Friday when she will be brought to court in a sober state.
She was also given the option to pay a cash bail of Sh20,000 and then present herself before the magistrate in a decent manner.
According to the charge sheet, on September 22, 2022, at about 7.35 am along Ngong road, Oparanya being the driver of a Mercedes Benz drove on a public road while under the influence of alcohol.
The charge sheet added that Oparanya was drunk to an extent that she was incapable of having proper control of the vehicle she was driving.
According to the prosecution side, the accused level of alcohol contained in her body system was 0.978mg/L.
