In a recent video for Vogue, we got a glimpse on what a typical day is for Burna Boy. Two things that resonated with me was, one, his struggle to wake up in the morning, so relatable, and two, how jam packed a day in the life of Burna Boy is.
The Nigerian born Afro-fusion artiste makes music that not only gets us party-ready, in a safe, social distanced way of course, but also brings to light the struggles of being Black. Songs like Monsters you Made, in which he collaborated with Chris Martin and his collaboration with Beyonce’s The Gift, the accompanying album to the remake of The Lion King, have been instrumental in the Black Lives Matter call.
Although he failed to get win a Grammy at the January 2020 show, Burna Boy still stands out with his unique fusion even getting the attention of the likes of Angelique Kidjo who, on receiving the world music award at the aforementioned Grammys, said, “This is for Burna Boy [who is] among those young artists [who] came from Africa [who] are changing the way our continent is perceived.”
