Well-wishers have offered to educate a group of street boys in Eldoret who scored impressive results in last year’s KCPE exams.
Kenyans in the country and abroad said they were touched by the story published in The Standard on Wednesday, which they described as "sad, yet inspiring".
They inundated Standard Group’s Eldoret office with telephone calls and emails, making inquiries on how they could help the boys.
The five boys, who were in and out of primary school, scored between 324 to 406 marks in the exam.
Valentine Kinuri Ngeera, writing from the US, offered to pay Form One fees for George Kanyi, who scored 406 marks.
"The story of these boys is touching. We need these brilliant minds tomorrow. They will be the doctors that save our lives, and provide all the other services we all need," another reader, Ms Njeri Mose, wrote.
Rev Robert Wafula, also writing from the US said: "What a hope and a determination! Can you let me know when these boys join high school? I can marshall some people to send money towards their fees."

The story, titled ‘Will lack of fees ruin street boys’ dreams?’ also elicited angry reactions from The Standard’s online readers.
"Where is our Government when our kids need it? Don’t we have a kitty in the Office of the President or somewhere, which caters for the destitute kids? Are our MPs still looking for a pay rise?" wrote a Mr Maina.
