Gospel crooner Ruth Matete recently opened up about life after her husband’s death. In a lengthy post on Instagram, Matete wrote, “One day I asked God why me, and He asked me who I would wish to go through it in my stead.

“That's when I stopped asking why me and instead asked God to show me the reason why He allowed me to face it.”

The former Tusker Project Fame winner lost her husband John Apewajoye in a freak accident at their home in Athi River. Apewajoye succumbed to injuries sustained when a gas explosion rocked their home leaving him with 60% burns among other injuries.

Following an autopsy into his death, Matete buried her husband on July 23 at Langata Cemetery.

The mother-to-be, who, following her husband’s death and subsequent investigations, had deactivated her social media accounts, has since August taken to social media to share her story and give encouraging words to anyone going through hardship.

“It's a few months since my late husband went to be with his maker,” she confessed, “and I can candidly tell you, that I now understand why God allowed me to go through it.

Matete went on to admit that she still cries whenever she thinks about her loss. “Do I still cry? Yes. But it gets better with time.”

However, she is determined to learn from her experiences.

“I have made up my mind not to waste my pain. God must and will be glorified through my pain,” she concluded.
