If you steadfastly make the same New Year's resolutions year after year and always fall short, it turns out you're in royal company.
Meghan Markle admitted that she always sets herself the same goals in a bid to shake her 'unladylike' habits, which are often derailed by stressful days or a couple of drinks.
Months before falling for Prince Harry, Meghan posted a blog on her now defunct lifestyle website The Tig in 2016 to set out her goals and explain why she never quite achieves them.
Listing her resolutions, she wrote: "Run a marathon. Stop biting my nails. Stop swearing. Re-learn French. These make my New Year’s resolution list nearly (AKA actually every) single year.
"The marathon hasn’t happened. The swearing comes in lulls triggered by being overworked or feeling mighty cheeky after a couple drinks.
"Then there’s the French – a language I studied through high school and then lost as I immersed myself in speaking Spanish with the Argentinians during my stint in Buenos Aires.
"I have put my little Rosetta Stone headset in my eager ears every year, resolving to do interviews en français, but much to my chagrin, it hasn’t stuck.
"And when it comes to the biting of the nails – well, it still happens with a turbulent flight or a stressful day. It’s unladylike. But then again, so is the swearing. Dammit."
The now 38 year old admitted that she ditched the resolutions for 2016 and instead chose to 'approach life playfully' and 'leave room for magic'.
Meghan met Harry weeks later after being set up on a blind date, leading to a royal wedding in May 2018 and the birth of their adorable son Archie in 2019 - so it looks like it worked.
Although the swearing and nail-biting are yet to be conquered, an expert has revealed that many of our own New Year's resolutions will go out of the window in a matter of days.
Fitness platform Strava has predicted that Sunday, January 19, will prove fateful for a lot of good intentions, labelling it 'quitter's day', as reported by News.com.au.
It's a little later than last year's date of Saturday, January 12, so maybe we are all getting slightly more determined.
If you could travel back in time, who would you want to meet?
