Faith Edith Vethi, widow to the former Kitui West Member of parliament Francis Nyenze will fly the Wiper Party’s flag during the by-elections set to be held on the 26th of March 2018. Vethi trounced her closest rival, Maluki Kitili who is the son of veteran politician Nyiva Mwendwa during yesterday’s nominations. Vethi garnered 13, 388 votes against Kitili’s 2,666 votes.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission officer in charge of yesterday’s exercise, Francis Kivindu said 16,000 which translates to 30% registered voters in the area turned out for the nomination exercise.
During her campaign launch last Sunday, Mrs. Nyenze was keen to point out that she is not riding on her husband’s legacy and that she was her own person. She said she was confident that the people of Kitui West would choose the best.
Immediately after she was announced winner, Faith Vethi thanked the people of Kitui West for having faith in her and she vowed to carry on with her late husband’s projects. She also assured the Kitui west residents that should she be elected during the by-elections, she would bring development to the area without favour or fear.
Kitui West Parliamentary seat was left vacant after the death of Francis Nyenze which occurred on 6th December last year, three months after he was sworn in for a second term.
