Cellulite is made up of free-floating fat cells that deposit under the skin. It presents as ugly dimples that appear on your thighs, stomach, buttocks and arms.
It has no weight or age restriction, and no matter your age, it can creep up on you destroying your smooth, supple skin. Hormones, genetics, and an unhealthy lifestyle are the top causes of cellulite.
Cellulite is aggravated by toxins, which we add into our skin through chemical-laden beauty products and processed foods so try using natural options for your skin care. It gets worse with age, however, you can manage it with these natural remedies.
Coffee Scrub – this can be beneficial in reducing cellulite as exfoliation stimulates blood flow while caffeine has a tightening effect on the skin. Mix 4 tablespoons of coffee grounds with three tablespoons of sugar and three tablespoons of warm olive oil or melted coconut oil.
Combine the ingredients into a paste and massage into your skin for several minutes using firm pressure. Rinse with warm water. Repeat this twice a week for at least a month.
Detox baths – some claim that toxin build-up in skin and fat tissues leads to cellulite. Therefore, soaking in a bath with Epsom salts is both relaxing and detoxifying, and it may help reduce the appearance of cellulite over time. Epsom or bath salts are available in supermarkets and pharmacies.
Dry body brushing – the process of dry brushing improves blood circulation and lymphatic drainage. It also removes toxins, reducing the appearance of cellulite.
1. Use a brush with natural bristles.
2. Ensure that both the body and the brush are dry.
3. Brush in one direction, upwards towards the heart, focusing on the problem areas.
4. Ensure you do not brush too hard as the skin should not be irritated.
5. Brush for about five minutes.
6. Have a shower or bath to wash off the dead skin cells and impurities.
Dry brushing is effective when done consistently over a period of time. Do this daily for at least two weeks.
Deep tissue massage – do this at least once a week to improve circulation.
Cayenne pepper – increases blood circulation in the body and can aid in the elimination of toxins. Mix half a teaspoon of cayenne pepper with half a lemon in a glass of water. Drink this first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
Seaweed – improves skin texture by flushing out toxins and stimulating circulation. Mix similar amounts of ground seaweed, sea salt and olive oil. Massage this into the affected areas for ten minutes and then rinse with warm water or add seaweed into a warm bath and soak for 20 minutes.
