The controversial donkey slaughterhouse in Naivasha has been reopened, two months after it was closed by the department of veterinary services.
Star Brilliant abattoir located in Kinamba reopened its doors after a massive renovation following a warning that it faced permanent closure if it did not adhere to the law.
The slaughterhouse was closed in May following investigations into the conditions there by the Kenya Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (KSPCA) and the veterinary department.
Confirming the reopening, County Director of Veterinary Services Enos Amuyunzu said the facility had been given the go-ahead to operate.
Dr Amuyunzu said his department had established that the facility had met all conditions to allow its reopening.
He said the department would continue to monitor the slaughterhouse to ensure that it did not flout the law.
