Following months of eagerness, the world finally witnessed Andile Ramaphosa, son of South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa, wed the love of his life, Bridget Birungi, in Kampala.
The royal give-away ceremony event was held at the Plum Kololo surburb in Kampala on Saturday afternoon and saw businesses and transport services interrupted in the capital as the who’s who of the continent attended the ceremony.
The guest list included President Yoweri Museveni who hosted his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa and South Africa First Lady Dr Tshepo Motsepe. Also in the guest list were political government bigwigs including Uganda’s Chief Justice Bart Katurebe, Central Bank governor Emmanuel Tumusiime, former Minister Jim Muhwezi alongside other high profile businessmen.
Political rivalry was also shown the door as President Museveni embraced his political nemesis Amama Mbabazi. Bridget was raised by his uncle and former Uganda Prime Minister Mbabazi after her father’s death in 1983.
Andile and Bridget met during their campus days and they have a child together. They are expected to hold another wedding in South Africa in the course of this year.
