How to conceive twins

Living

Many parents would love to conceive twins. Isn’t it just adorable to have two little people who look exactly the same? There are two types of twins, identical and fraternal twins. Identical twins develop from one egg; the egg is fertilized by the sperm then divides into two. Identical twins are similar in everything they do. Fraternal twins develop from two separate eggs, fertilized by two separate sperms. These types of twins are their own unique individual who may contain characteristics from their other siblings.

For those parents who desire to have twins, the following steps may help you.

1. Give birth when you are older

You can give birth to your first born and second born when you are younger, and then latter on at 35 years and above try out for your twins, your chances are higher. This is because before a woman enters peri-menopause, her ovaries naturally start releasing more than one egg each month. But this only applies to fraternal twins.

2. Eat more sweet potatoes

Women who naturally conceive twins are perceived to come from areas where sweet potatoes grow. Sweet potatoes improve the fertility of women, and improve the ovulation process .This in turn increases the chances of getting twins.

3. Weigh more

Be heavier rather than lighter. Research has it that women with a BMI of over 30 have a higher chance of conceiving twins than those with a less BMI. Considering the fact a BMI of over 30 makes one obese, this is not a better recommendation. But if you are willing to take the risk, take the challenge.

4. Feed your husband foods rich in Zinc

Foods which are high in zinc, such as oysters, green leafy vegetables, seeds, and bread, will help with sperm production - thus increasing his likelihood of being able to fertilize more than one egg.

5. Breastfeed for as long as possible

Most women tend to stop breast feeding as early as six months. Breast feeding should continue for as long as possible, maybe until when the child is 2-3 years. Women who are producing prolactin and breastfeeding are more likely to conceive with twins.
