The Kenya Film Classification Board has finally decided to crack the whip in regards to irresponsible advertising.
The board through its Chief Executive Officer Ezekiel Mutua has given advertisers 14 days to air their views. One of the major concerns was the inappropriate time some of the commercials are aired.
These adverts are aired at times when the whole family is watching TV. The board has been silent for long. It is commendable that they have come out full throttle to deal with rogue advertisers. The ban, as expected, has seen the population divided along two distinct lines. Those for it and those against it.
Some who oppose the ban have even resorted to personal attacks against Mr Mutua. This is so bad considering the fact that the board makes decisions based on complaints received from the public.
The decisions are therefore not the making of an individual. The board should do more to ensure there are tough laws to govern the time the commercials are aied. Advertisers should also strive to be responsible in their advertising and present the correct positions considering their audience.
