Nearly 1,000 students of Moi University may not sit their end of semester exams after they lost more than Sh70 million in a fees scam.
The students are suspected to have fallen prey to their colleagues who allegedly colluded with accounts clerks to steal their tuition fees.
The victims of the fraud may be in further trouble after the university denounced them for not following the procedure for payment of fees.
So far, some of the alleged swindlers have appeared before the students’ disciplinary committee.
An official at the finance department told Campus Vibe another 793 students have been summoned to present their receipts after the accounts officer failed to trace their fees.
Deputy VC for student affairs Nathan Ogechi said the implicated officials have been suspended.
