Who is a father? Many people define their fathers according to their experiences. Some may not since they have never had one. Others know that their lives would have been worse were it not for their fathers, while others say their lives would have been better without their dads!
In my case, my father is the most caring person I have ever met. Without him, my life would not have been the way it is. Since I was a toddler, I have seen my father’s perseverance, endurance and hard work in making my life better. He has taken our family to greater heights. His name is James Gichuru Kiarie.
In times of happiness, he laughs with me; in times of sadness, he mourns with me; in times of pain, he suffers with me and in times of joy, he celebrates with me. He works tirelessly to ensure we have a meal on the table, clothes and shelter.
I remember one time when everybody considered me a failure. I had lost hope in life, but my father encouraged me to move on. "My child, remember that life is full of ups and downs. In times of hardships, you have to hold your head high, fight the battle and win. I know you are not a failure," he said.
My father has shaped my life. It is worth celebrating fathers today.
