FIRST DATE
The first date was in 2009. We went to Nairobi Safari Walk where we bonded with each other and had fun with animals.
THE PROPOSAL
JOAN: We were just catching up on happenings of the day and as we were chatting he told me that he wants to settle down and he wants to introduce me to his parents officially as his wife to be. I thought he was joking. Later, he told me he was serious though he did not have a ring with him but he promised to give me a ring thereafter.
Later, on my birthday, he told me that he was organising a dinner with his friends who will not be going upcountry for New Year celebrations. I really helped him in planning but whenever I suggested anything, he would give an excuse why my suggestion was not valid.
Finally, we went to dinner with our friends at Panari Hotel. When it was time to serve desert, I heard people singing 'happy birthday'’ though I could not tell the name of the person they were singing the song to.
I knew it was me when they came towards where we were seated. They were hotel staff carrying a cake. Once they reached our table, I saw Him (Abraham) reaching for a ring from his friend and he officially proposed. He told me it was an assurance that I am still the woman he wants to marry. I was over the moon knowing that I will spend my life with my best friend whom I love so much.
THE DRAMA
We had a supplier who shortchanged us the last minute yet we had already signed the contract and paid a down payment.
Also our photo session venue contract was cancelled three weeks to the wedding.
WITH HINDSIGHT
We really wish we had checked and scrutinised all the contracts with the suppliers. Most of these contracts are written in favour of the vendor and the client suffers in case of breach of contract.
We always tell couples planning to wed to plan early enough, planning both of you as a couple, vetting of the vendors to avoid disappointment and above all is pray towards the wedding.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS
The highlight of the day was saying of the vows and entertainment by Silver String Band. Our guests were so entertained and they enjoyed every moment in the wedding.
