Nairobian columnist Empress Ciku Kimani-Mwaniki is set to launch her fifth book at the end of the month. The book set to be launched on November, coincides with her 50th birthday, hence the hashtag #The5thAt50.
The book, whose title is still under wraps, will be published by Mvua Press, an imprint of E-kitabu.
Ciku pushes boundaries by humanising the so-called pariahs of the society, by basing her love stories on them. In her books, prostitutes, as well as former criminals, have fallen in love.
With her fifth book, Ciku pushes the boundaries a bit further by writing a crime-romance novel.
“It is the underground Nairobi, its residents and, does love even live there? Among the protagonists is a crime boss, two undercover cops, a priest, a brothel madam and, you guessed it, a prostitute,” she says.
The launch will be a fun-filled event, she says.
“There shall be music, and food, and drinks and a live performance,’ she adds.
Her other books are Nairobi Cocktail, Immigrant Cocktail, Cocktail from the Savannah and A Cocktail of Unlikely Tales.
