How to pamper yourself at home this Christmas

Are you stressed out from work or other family obligations? Are you a mother? Or have you been burning the candle at both ends? Christmas is here and all you could be needing is some time off of the normal routine to just relax your mind.

Here are six things that you could do to relax your body and your mind this Christmas season.

1.Set the mood.

Put on some relaxing music, light some candles and dim in the lights in your bathroom.  Poor a few drops of essential oils and/or bath salts into a bath of running water. Lavender, peppermint and orange oils can revive the senses. Bath salts detoxify the body and help you to relax. Make a refreshing spa drink that consists of water with some fruit slices such as lemon, orange, apple, or cucumber.

2.  Give yourself a facial.

Cleanse your skin and gently exfoliate with a scrub of your choice. Apply a face mask and then soak in the bathtub for as long as you need to. If you like, use a waterproof pillow to support your head while you lie down.

Use a loofah to scrub away dead skin cells from your body. You could simply use a shower gel or add a body scrub to leave you squeaky clean. Shave if necessary and rinse of the face mask.

3.  Moisturize.

Moisturize every inch of your body with your favourite lotion or body butter. If you have a special lotion, use it. If you have an oil-based perfume, you can mix this with your lotion. Put on some comfortable clothes or your favourite bathroom robe.

4.  Do your nails.

Gather your supplies for a manicure and pedicure. Paint your nails and then read a book or magazine, or watch a movie as you wait for your nails to dry.

5.   Stretch.

Once your nails are dry do some stretches while breathing deeply. If you would like to sleep after this, lie down on your back and lift your legs at a 90-degree angle. Doing this for five minutes improves your circulation and encourages your body to relax.

6.  Calming thoughts.

For that day, forget your to-do list and think of positive happy thoughts. You could say a prayer, or hold a soft teddy bear as you lull yourself to sleep.

After this ritual, you should feel a lot better and more relaxed.
