You wake up ready to seize the day, only to be greeted by two little bags beetled under your eyes, staring back at you like they just pulled an all-nighter at a party you didn’t even attend!

Eye bags, or puffiness under the eyes, are common for many people worldwide. They can happen for various reasons, such as ageing, lack of sleep, fluid build-up, and even genetics.

Puffiness under the eyes is typically harmless but can sometimes signal underlying issues like allergies, fluid retention or skin ageing concerns.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), as we age, the skin around our eyes can lose elasticity and volume, leading to those pesky under-eye bags.

Symptoms include swelling, dark circles and sometimes drooping skin around the eyes. While they can affect anyone, they tend to become more noticeable as we age, and many people start to see them in their 30s and 40s.

Here are some handy tips to help you ease those bags and reclaim your bright-eyed appearance:

1. Sleep tight: Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) advises propping your head up slightly with an extra pillow to reduce fluid accumulation under your eyes while you sleep. Your body needs time to rejuvenate, and so do your eyes.

2. Cool it down: Apply a cool compress to your eyes for about 10-15 minutes. This simple trick can reduce puffiness and help you feel refreshed.

3. Watch your intake: Limiting salt and alcohol intake can help decrease fluid retention. Your body will thank you for this, including your eyes.

4. Quit that coffin nail: If you smoke, it’s time to quit. Smoking accelerates collagen loss, leading to saggy skin. When the ciggy moments are lit, so are the dangers

5. Allergy alert and cosmetic solutions: If allergies are inflaming your eye bags, consult your doctor for suitable medications. Identifying and avoiding your triggers can make a world of difference. Additionally, eye creams containing ingredients like caffeine can help reduce puffiness. So, think of them as a mini spa treatment for your eyes.
