The Oscars is here and the red carpet is back and Carey Mulligan wowed at the most star-studded movie night of the year.

The celebs were in fine fettle as they made their appearance on a red carpet once again after the coronavirus pandemic forced awards shows last year to be canceled or go virtual.

The 93rd saw several of the nominees don bright ensembles with Carey's gold number and Colman Domingo's bright pink suit the pick of the bunch.

When asked about director Emerald Fennell, 35-year-old Carey Mulligan joked: "Oh... asking English people to be nice about each other in front of each other is incredibly difficult."

But Promising Young Woman star - who showcased a glam gold two-piece by Valentino Couture with a huge trail - did manage to muster words of praise in the end.

She said: "I don't ever want to work in a film that she doesn't direct, I'm going to follow her for the rest of her life.

"I mean, truly. She's just the greatest person, everyone can see how talented she is and what a brilliant writer she is and what a ridiculously amazing director."

Elsewhere on the red carpet, Riz Ahmed was spotted fixing his wife Fatima Farheen Mirza’s hair, while nine-year-old Alan Kim showed off his dance moves.

His Ma Rainey's Black Bottom co-star Viola Davis amused by taking an air shot with her husband Julius Tennon.

The pair matched perfectly as Viola showcased a bold White Alexander McQueen gown, while Juilus looked smart in a white tux with black trousers.

And she wasn't the only one having a bit of fun prior to the show starting.

Nine-year-old Alan S Kim joyfully danced his was to the Awards in mis-matched socks.

The youngster from Minari was smartly dressed in a suit jacket and shorts with the odd socks pulled up to knee height.

Like Carey, Leslie Odom Jr also rocked the gold look as he stunned in a Brioni suit with his Cartier jewels and a fetching Omega watch.

And Halle Berry, who rarely lets down on the fashion front, wowed once more as she debuted her brand new look.

While pulling at the tassels of her flamboyant number, she also showed off her new hairstyle. The actress previously teased she'd chopped her locks and turned up with a tidy looking bob.
