The country has been grappling with the large numbers of teenage pregnancies over the past couple months.
Within the first five months of 2020, a study by Kenya Health System Survey reported that Machakos County alone had 3,964 cases of teenage pregnancies. Coincidentally, these numbers skyrocketed after March, when the country reported its first case of COVID-19 and schools indefinitely closed.
While the Ministry of Education has discredited the report, the issue calls for the dire need to protect our little girls from sex predators. In this regard, a number of leaders have been championing calls to desensitize the society to defiling school girls and calling on parents and caregivers to keep a vigilant eye on their teenage daughters.
In reiterating that the large numbers of early pregnancies in the country is a time bomb, Embu County Commissioner Abdulahi Galgalo urged parents to keep their children busy with activities so that they don’t end up idle.
However, it is his advice to men in Embu County that invokes a heated debate. Galgalo urged the men to dress their wives in school uniforms to quell their sexual desires instead of preying on school-going girls.
Kenyans had a few things to say about the Commissioner's advise and here are some of the reactions:
“I’m honestly so tired of this country sometimes. “Dress yourself like a little girl for your man, so that he doesn’t rape a young girl.” How about we teach men NOT to RAPE. Point blank period. And any man who does… rich, poor, police, civilian, and government official feels the full force of the law. It should be simple. And same rule to women cause women can be assailants as well,” remarked popular blogger Joy Kendi.
Unless to use strong method, the beauty & admirable of a lady is in her eyes not dress uniform. Strict rules from the government.” Opined Festo Kapcholyo Olekiapi.
“You can never convince the hyena to deviate its appetite.” Thomas James shared.
“So the commissioner wants people to PREY on their wives?” Peter Mololoi John conjectured.
@KuntaKitten commented: Why are women always expected to manage men's bad behavior? Also, isn't this how pedophilia works... jail them.
If you could pick only one person to live with forever who would it be?
