Daybeds are modern-day lifesavers especially since it is December and you will be likely hosting a few people or needing to be hosted yourself. Who would not want a bed that can turn into a couch, a chaise lounge and a sofa?
Daybeds are open-ended on one side and fully support the allow full support of the body while in extension. They have a back support as well with some models even reclining for extra lumbar support. Their frames are made from wood, metal or a mix of both. Locally daybeds are also referred to as divan and sofa bed. Futons are also daybeds of sorts.
Daybeds date back to the 17th and 18th century. They were owned by royals or members of higher castes and were mostly used in the afternoons.
Daybeds are versatile and they can transform a space into a cozy den, an extra bedroom or a relaxing lounge zone all in one. Some daybeds also have a trundle bed and drawers underneath them which acts as extra storage or an extra bed. Here is how to decorate your space with a daybed.
First piece first
Daybeds are designed to fit against a wall. If your daybed is the largest piece in the room, choose the wall where you’d ordinarily put a sofa. Ideally, the daybed should span no more than 1/3 to 1/2 of the length of the wall behind it.

Throws
If you have an afghan, a light blanket or a quilt, you can spread these on your daybed. If you occasionally use your daybed as an extra bed at night, make it as you would a regular bed. Right from underneath, with a mattress cover, fitted sheet, and a flat sheet after which you can have your decorative throw on top.
Pillows
If your daybed has no padded back support, prop as many pillows as possible to make it comfortable to sit on during the day. Use pillows decoratively to your advantage. Select fabrics, colours and textures that compliment your décor theme.
