After months of controversy, the giant National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has a new Managing Trustee.

Labour Minister John Munyes announced the appointment of Mr Alex Kazongo, a former Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Financial Controller, on Monday morning.

"I selected the best among the three names that were recommended to me, and I have full confidence that he will do a good job," said the minister.

Kazongo beat the Acting Managing Trustee Albert Odero and William Kirwa, the Managing Director of the Agricultural Development Corporation, who were in the last three shortlisted for the job.

The minister said the selection process, managed by a local human resources agency, cost the government Sh1 million.

" I wish the minister could have a free hand in making such appointments to make the process efficient and cost-effective," said Munyes.

Kazongo now has an uphill task of restoring confidence to the Sh100 billion fund that has a history of financial corruption and political interference.
