Having darkened inner thighs is a huge summer vibe killer. While everyone is enjoying themselves in trendy dresses and shorts, you’re stuck feeling uncomfortable because of the clearly visible dark patches on your thighs.

Usually, there are some commonly known causes of this hyperpigmentation like friction and dry skin.

There are also more urgent conditions like diabetes and hormonal imbalances that result in discoloration.

If you suspect it may be something serious, it is advisable to consult your doctor first to rule any medical condition out.

Aside from creams and medications you find at pharmacies, you can try home remedies to even out your tone and restore your confidence:

  • Sugar and lemon

A simple DIY sugar and lemon scrub is effective in dealing with the dark areas. They are both a type of exfoliator which clears the dead skin cells stuck on the surface.

You will need fine sugar for this recipe because it’s gentler on your skin as compared to the large granules of coarse sugar and a fresh lemon. Mix them both and gently scrub your inner thighs after dampening your skin with some water.

Do this once a week.

  • Aloe Vera

By now, I’m sure you have noticed that aloe Vera is always on the list for natural beauty must haves. It is the answer for a number of health needs and is a safe solution for beauty problems as well.

Considering that hyperpigmentation can be caused by sun damage, aloe Vera gel is a remedy because it soothes, moisturizes and heals the skin.

If you have a plant at home and you are a pro in handling it, you can extract the gel on your own. However, it’s more recommended to buy some because you won’t have to go through the struggle of figuring out the correct leaves to harvest.

As delicious as it is some oatmeal and yoghurt could help remove the dead skin around your inner thighs (Image: iStock)
  • Oatmeal + yoghurt

Oatmeal scrub is a healing option especially if you want to avoid other harsher ingredients like lemon. It’s a gentle exfoliator and when combined with yoghurt which has lactic acid, it removes dead skin cells and brightens the area.

The two main ingredients you will need are oats and plain yoghurt.

Grind the oats into a powder and mix with the plain yoghurt. Apply on affected areas and scrub for a few minutes. You can then let it sit on your skin for at least 10 minutes after scrubbing before rinsing.

This recipe is a combination of a mask and an exfoliator.

  • Avoid friction causing clothes

Tight clothing is one of the most common reasons why many end up with darkened inner thighs. A pair of tight pants might be a trendy item but you should think twice if you want to let your skin heal.

The tighter the clothes, the more the friction and that’s why it’s better to wear loose fitting clothes that allow your skin to breathe.

The other thing you should consider is the material you wear. Rough materials like jeans cause more chafing and within a short time, you will notice that the tone around your inner thighs is changing.

So the next time you’re out shopping for clothes keep these concerns in mind.
