Tanzanian minor tests positive for coronavirus

Health & Science

Homa Bay County recorded a third Covid-19 case yesterday after a 14-year-old Tanzanian who crossed into the country illegally tested positive for the disease.

The boy was with two other Tanzanian teens, aged 15 and 19, who sneaked into the county on Monday to hawk goods.

They were at the Obwanda trading centre, Kagan Ward, Rangwe, where they were selling shoes and assorted herbal medicines.

Residents raised the alarm, leading to their arrest and their being quarantined at Homa Bay KMTC where the 14-year-old tested positive.

County Health Executive Richard Muga said they would “test the other two boys again to find out their safety regarding the infection”.

On Monday, three other Tanzanians were arrested at the California trading centre in West Kagan Location, Rangwe, after crossing the border illegally. The men aged 40, 50 and 55 are also being quarantined at the Homa Bay KMTC awaiting their Covid-19 results.

Initial tests showed they were all negative. The second tests will be done after they complete the 14-day quarantine period.
