A twenty-three-year-old cleaner in Kajiado County has surprised many for being one of the youngest Members of County Assembly (MCAs) elected in the just concluded election.

Abraham Osoi Orikai is now a popular name in the Matapato North Ward and the entire county after he garnered 4,700 votes against his rival and the incumbent Dickson Nkaloyo who managed 4,300 votes.

Osoi who contested through the Wiper Party, an affiliate of Azimio la Umoja, beat three other seasoned politicians.

During the campaigns, Osoi who has been raised by a single mother in a family of ten children, used to move on a motorbike while trying to woo voters.

Based on Kajiado's political history, Osoi is the youngest leader ever to be elected in the county.

''I have been working as a cleaner for some time in Nairobi during the night and used the money to pay my school fees at KCA university, I graduated recently and I'm now ready to serve my people'' said a jovial Osoi.

For lack of resources, the newly elected MCA used a door-to-door campaign strategy to reach voters.

"This is a God-given opportunity to serve my people, I still can't imagine that I'm the MCA elect for Matapato ward. Many of my friends neglected me thinking that it was just a joke, but I told them I was determined to win to their disbelief," said Osoi.

It is a double win for Osoi who got married just a few months before the elections. He was ridiculed for being too young and lacking wisdom to lead the people.

''They mocked me that I was not even married and therefore I can't lead. They also humiliated me for not having money for the campaign,'' says the incoming MCA.

His immediate priority is addressing water scarcity and uplifting education standards in his ward.

"The issue of water scarcity is a major challenge to our people while many young people are dropping out of class to certain challenges, which I seek to address once being sworn into office,'' pledged Osoi.

An accountant by profession, the MCA-elect further hopes to create employment opportunities for the youth whom he urged to emulate him.

''We are always reminded that we are leaders of tomorrow, let senior citizens know that tomorrow is today. It is the right time for us to stand up and be counted. Our age or wealth doesn't matter, what matters is hard work and trust in God," he stated.
