A gender reveal party is a celebration whereby parents to-be, close friends and family members find out the sex of the baby before delivery. The event was first heard of in 2008 when the creator, Karvunidis Jenna, decided to spark a trend that is now popular across the world.

With time, these genders reveal parties were put on the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Many of the parents who decided to throw a gender reveal party were been subjected to a lot of negative feedback and backlash from the internet and even those who are in attendance.

For one reason or another, these celebrations are losing their meaning.

If you are planning to have a gender reveal party soon, here’s how you can prepare for the incoming backlash.

Don’t take it too seriously

There is a reason why it’s called a gender reveal ‘party’. The sole purpose is for a celebration rather than a time for insults and disagreements. Many couples have been blasted over the internet for their theme choices and other arrangements revolving the reveal. When you remember that it’s meant to be for fun and enjoyment, you probably won’t take the backlash seriously as well. Don’t stress over small things especially when the comments start flowing in. Concentrate on celebrating the baby that’s about to be born and enjoy the day.

Be emotionally ready

One of the essential steps for backlash preparation is being emotionally ready for it. In the world we live in, people will constantly have opinions about how things should be and how things should be done. This can create a lot of anxiety for you at a time when you are meant to be happy. If you know certain family members have expectations, just prepare how you’ll handle the situation when they express disappointment. This preparation will help you be composed and confident in the midst of backlash.

Invites only

Take time to invite people who want the best for you. Having a huge event is great but having people who you know love and care for you is even more important. Avoid inviting random acquaintances who might come to criticize everything and ruin your special day. If you can, make the event more private so that you have fun and minimize unnecessary stress.

Be content

At times, how you react to the gender reveal might not be what people expect. You might have been sure that you have a boy only to find out that you are having a girl. At the same time, society still has more hopes for males than females so you might be tempted to sulk when you see pink balloons being released on that day. Remember that once your child is old enough they will watch their reveal party. They might be deeply affected when they see you weren’t really happy for them. Prepare for this kind of backlash by accepting your child even before they are born. It’s important to be content by appreciating them for who they are.

The bottom line here is, you should enjoy the celebration and accept whatever outcome there is. Although the original creator of the gender reveal parties is now against them for many reasons, the core purpose was to celebrate the baby by sharing special moments with family and friends.

If you want to be extravagant and throw a big party, you should do so. If you want to have a small, private gathering, go ahead. These parties are a great way to show the kids that they were loved and appreciated even before they were born so there is nothing wrong with it.

At the end of the day, everyone has the right to express themselves and the right to enjoy special moments like these.
