Two people have been killed in a foiled attempt to attack a ward administrator in Homa Bay County.

The deceased persons are Evans Adoyo, a brother to Wang'chieng' ward administrator Felix Adoyo, and an unidentified man.

The incident began when the unidentified man raided Felix in his hotel where he was sleeping at Maguti village, Lower Kakwa Jwok Sub-location in Rachuonyo North Sub-county.

According to the area Assistant Chief Wilson Were, the suspect raided Felix in the hotel at 2 am on Wednesday.

Upon realizing that someone was struggling with the door to gain entry, Felix raised an alarm.

A few people including Evans responded immediately and found the unidentified man struggling to open the hotel door to assault Felix.

The assailant turned against Evans and assaulted him with a machette. Felix and a few people got hold of Evans and rushed him to Kendu Adventist Hospital at Gendia trading center. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, a mob tied the assailant's hands and roughed him up as they questioned the motive behind the attack. Upon getting information that Evans was dead, the mob killed the assailant with machettes and crude weapons.

"Evans was among the people who responded to rescue his brother before he was attacked," said Were.

Were said the assailant had not been identified.

"Nobody was able to identify the man. He could speak Kiswahili only," Were said.

Residents suspected that the stranger had intention of killing Felix.

Evans' body was moved to Kendu Adventist Hospital mortuary.

The assailant's body was moved to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital mortuary.

Rachuonyo North Sub-county Police Commander Lydia Parteiyie said they have launched investigations into the matter.

"He did not have any identification document. Our officers found him dead and his hands were tied with a rope," Parteiyie said.

The police boss told residents to avoid taking the law into their hands.
