The uterus forms the basis of the female reproductive system. This organ is responsible for the monthly cycle in women and it plays a major role in nourishing a foetus before delivery. Since the uterus is a vital reproductive organ in the female body, it needs to be healthy so as to avoid hindrances in conceiving, the period cycle and hormonal levels. Here are five foods that women can eat for a flourishing uterus

Green tea

Green tea is an antioxidant-rich tea that originates from China. The hydrating beverage has a myriad of health benefits including weight loss, improved brain function and protection against cancer.

The antioxidants in green tea can also help combat uterine fibroids in women. One study showed a 32.6% reduction in fibroid volume on a sample of women who were assigned to drink green tea for four months.

Lemons

These citrus fruits are loaded with Vitamin C which promotes fertility and boosts the body's immune system. The immune-boosting properties of lemons can better help the uterus fight off harmful bacteria which could cause infections in the area.

Drinking a cup of lemon-infused water first thing in the morning will help clear your body of harmful toxins and help regulate your monthly cycle.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a very flavourful spice with numerous health benefits. The anti-inflammatory spice is packed with antioxidants and can lower blood sugar levels as well as reduce the risk of heart disease. Cinnamon can also boost reproductive health in women.

A study on 45 women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) who took cinnamon supplements on a daily basis for six months showed an improvement in their ovulation and menstrual cycle.

Broccoli

Broccoli is a green plant that is rich in fibre, vitamin C, iron and potassium. The uterus can greatly benefit from ‘phytoestrogens’ found in the vegetable which can help halt the growth of tumours in the womb.

Estrogen is the primary female sex hormone which promotes reproductive development. Phytoestrogens found in broccoli can also help normalise and regulate estrogen levels in women whose levels are fairly low.

Nuts

Nuts are generally rich in omega-3 and vitamin E which are excellent for fertility problems. Almonds and cashew nuts are especially high in good cholesterol which could help prevent birth complications such as a premature baby or an under-weight full-term baby.

One study showed a link between dietary patterns that are high in nuts during pregnancy and the lowered risk of preterm birth.
