Do zumba exercises help in weight loss?

What do you do when you no longer find it interesting to follow that tedious exercise programme day in day out? When your motivation is heading on a downward spiral and your workout is no longer fun? This is actually the best time your fitness needs to be redefined.

Fitness is supposed to be fun to get the best of it and make its effects last longer. Although other things like your diet and hydration are just as important, if you don’t enjoy what you do, giving up becomes so easy.

One of the best ways to make your exercise fun is to do zumba. This type of class is simply based on interval and resistance (weight) training which actually leads to increased caloric output and complete body toning. The dance uses Latin moves like salsa, mambo, meringue, calypso, raggaton and many more.

The best thing is that both slow and fast rhythms are used so it is very easy for anyone to receive a variety of beats which in so many ways increases muscular movement and agility. While doing the class, attention is also shifted from the duration of the workout as it’s, well, fun. It’s really like a dance party because you are not in the same spot, doing the exact same thing just like aerobic or any cardio workout.

The sessions are based on the philosophy of High Intense Interval Training (HIIT). This is a training system that combines short bursts of intense activities called intervals, with rest periods or periods of lower intensity. By alternating such intervals throughout the session, your body is forced to exert more effort that it normally would during a steady continuous workout.

Another great thing about such exercise is that you are working out the whole body including your core unlike other type of training where you always use same muscles group every time.

Get started

In order to get this exercise started and make it fun, join health clubs that offer such services but always make sure you warm up first to get your heart and blood flowing through your muscles. If you are a beginner, remember to start with easy basic moves and once you get it right, then you can go to a more advanced sessions.

Always avoid high impact moves to begin with as well as jerking and twisting motions. Make sure you move on an even plane of motion if it’s either sideways, forward or backward. After the workout session, do a few gentle static stretches as you slowly breathe in deeply to stretch both your upper body and lower body and more importantly your hamstrings and calves.
