Lupita Nyong’o family is upset with fake news that their daughter is HIV-positive.
This comes after a US based online newspaper, Houston Chronicle published a story claiming that the 12 Years A Slave actress was living with the virus.
Speaking exclusively to Heads Up, Lupita’s dad, Prof Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o brushed off the news.
“It is all nonsense!” said Lupita’s father.
Heads Up has learnt that the article was fabricated.
The initial article is a true story of South African Isindigo TV series actress, Lesegfo Motsepe who disclosed her HIV-positive status in 2011.
The article written by Monica Laganparsad talks of Motsepe, who played Letti Matabane on SABC3’s Isidingo from 1998 to 2008, had kept her status hidden for 13 years.
It is alleged the names were changed in the article to read Lupita Nyong’o.
These claims could have stemmed from Lupita’s role in the TV series, Shuga, where she played Ayira, who juggles two men and later discovers she might have contracted the deadly disease.
The show’s numerous steamy sex scenes helped raise HIV/AIDS awareness.
