Tiny fruits are occasionally ignored yet their health benefits are numerous. One of these tiny fruits is tangerine also known as chenza in Swahili and Citrus reticula scientifically.

They are named after the city of Tangier located in Morocco because, in ancient times, the fruits were imported through the city.

On their nutrition profile, tangerines contain about 85 per cent water, 44 per cent Vitamin C, carbohydrates, folate, fats and proteins among other compounds. Eating them regularly helps fight common illnesses like viral fever, coughs and flu.

This is because Vitamin C leads to the production of white blood cells that boost the body's immunity. Tangerine also acts as a depurative. Its peels contain an essential oil that aids in detoxifying the body by removing impurities from the blood.
