FIRST DATE
The first time we met in 2013 was at a bank where I was working and Glory had come to open an account. After getting to know each other, I asked her out since we exchanged contacts the first time we met.
THE PROPOSAL
We had gone with some friends to enjoy ourselves at arboretum, I hadn’t shown any signs of proposing so she didn’t even imagine it could happen. Then at the right time, I asked her to marry me in front of our friends.
She took a while to answer then eventually she said, ‘Yes.’ It was one of the best feelings I can recall after she agreed to be my wife.
THE DRAMA
The theme we went for was royal blue and pink. However, the décor person forgot to bring fresh flowers on the wedding day so we had to improvise. We encountered a lot of challenges during the planning process, the main one being the distance between our two homes.
Glory is from Moshi, Tanzania and I’m from Teso North. Planning meetings were poorly attended given that most of our relatives and friends live in those two places.
Then also getting a certificate of no impediment from the government of Tanzania gave us a headache. We were disappointed on two occasions by staff at Sheria house but the registrar of marriages came to our rescue three days to the wedding.
WITH HINDSIGHT
We learnt not to give up and always be each other’s’ pillar during hard times.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS
The speeches. Everyone was amused when our friend from Poland was given a chance to speak and he addressed us in fluent Teso language. We also had a Teso song composed for us, ‘Lolo Eddy Ka Gloria’ which is now a hit song in both Teso North and Teso South.
HONEYMOON
We went to Mbale, then to Tororo in Uganda. The experience was good. Bringing two people from two different countries in a foreign country was amazing. We went to the source of River Nile and we climbed the famous Tororo hills.
