We don’t always have time for a full facial. We are usually occupied with workloads, kids to tend to, chores to finish and other daily tasks that need our attention. When we do get a few minutes to spare, we use it to unwind and relax, probably watching a movie or catching up with friends.

Many of us are fans of the to-go facial scrub which is followed by the usual moisturizing. Nothing too detailed.

But every now and then, you realize that your face needs a proper spa day.

Spa quality facials aren’t usually complicated. In fact, now is the best time to learn how to do some of these processes at home to avoid the risk of getting infected with COVID-19.

These are the steps you can follow for a world class, at home, facial.

Set the relaxing spa ambience

Spending the day at the spa is also about the experience, which is meant to boost your mental and emotional health.

Many spas use relaxing music to calm you down and some will even add scented candles. For that full spa experience, you should consider adding some of these touches so that you can relax and get the most out of your spa day.

Wash your hands and remove any makeup

Don’t rush into starting the facial without washing your hands and removing all makeup residue. Skipping this step will transfer bacteria from your hands to your skin and maybe within a few days you will notice some breakouts when you just enjoyed a relaxing facial the other day.

Wash your hands and face then cleanse to ensure that your skin is perfectly clear. You can even use a facial brush along with your cleanser for this step, but make sure you’re being gentle.

Steam

You can use a facial steamer if you have one or a bowl of hot water. You need to allow the steam to work its way through your skin to open your pores. This will make it easier for any pollutants to come up. Be careful not to burn yourself in the process.

Exfoliate

You have the freedom to choose what kind of exfoliator suits your skin. A good choice would be a physical exfoliator, which is what they often use at the spas.

Create your own hydrating exfoliator at home or use one you’ve bought at the beauty store. Massage gently in circular motions for a few minutes. Don’t forget to scrub your lips and neck too.

Time for a mask

One of the best parts of a facial is the mask. In this case, you can make your own mask with basic ingredients in your kitchen or get one that’s been pre-made for you. Choose one that will cater to your skin whether you’re dealing with dry, oil or combination skin.

Let it set for a few minutes as you relax then wash it off or move on to the next step if you used a mask that doesn’t require rinsing.

Moisturize and treat

This is the step where you apply your serums, under eye creams, moisturizers and toners. You know your skin best so it all depends on you. Just remember that, if you’re trying something new that could potentially cause a drastic change, make sure that you consult your dermatologist first.

As you moisturize your face, remember to moisturize your lips so that they don’t dry out.

Massage

Another highlight of a spa facial is the massage. This is important because it improves blood circulation to reduce signs of aging and to rejuvenate your skin. Massage your face and neck as well.

Other important tips to remember while doing a facial at home are, be gentle, use the right products and don’t neglect the lips and neck area.

For what in your life do you feel most grateful?
