The women's world cup is drawing to the last 16s. The tournament which is being hosted in France and has brought about amazing players. There has been the return of  old timers and also some new kids on the block. Below is a list of ten players to watch out for:

1. Christine Sinclair

Christine is a 36 year old  Canadian soccer player and captain of the Canadian national team. She plays professionally for the Portland Thorns FC in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL).

She is Canada's all-time leading scorer and currently second in all-time international goals scored for males or females with 181. With 15 years of professional football under her belt, she has played in five FIFA Women's World Cups (USA 2003, China 2007, Germany 2011, Canada 2015, France 2019) and three Olympic Football Tournaments (Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio 2016). Moreover she has been shortlisted for FIFA World Player of the Year seven times, in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2016.

2.Alex Morgan

The 29 year old American holds a tied record for the most goals scored in the in the current world cup games. During the opening group name between USA and Thailand, Alex scored 5 goals and registered three assists (contribution by a player which helps score a goal).

The forward’s five goals make her the second player in WWC (Women’s World Cup) history to score that many goals in a match. The only other player to do so is former American soccer player Michelle Akers, who scored as many goals against Chinese Taipei back in 1991.

3. Sam Kerr

The 25 year old Australian ties with Alex Morgan for the most goals scored in the current world cup tournament.

She also plays for Chicago Red Stars in the United States' National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). The Forward was selected as the team captain for the Australian national team after becoming the all-time best scorer in the National Women's Soccer League.

Kerr scored four goals in a 4-1 win against Jamaica to help Australia secure qualification out of group C.

4. Marta Vieira Da Silva

The 33 year old Brazilian is commonly referred to as Marta. She has an outstanding career in football. She plays for the Orlando Pride in the National Women's Soccer League and the Brazil national team as a forward. With 17 goals, she holds the record for most goals scored at FIFA World Cup tournaments. Moreover, she is the only footballer in both genders to score at five different World Cup editions.

Marta is often regarded as the best female player of all time and was given the nickname "Pelé in skirts" by Pelé himself.

5. Cristiane Rozeira de Souza Silva

Popularly known as Cristiane, is a 34 year old Brazilian Forward. She plays for São Paulo FC as well as the Brazilian women’s national team. At club level, Cristiane has played professionally in France, Germany, Sweden, the United States, Russia and South Korea, as well as in her native Brazil.

In the current WWC, she has scored 4 goals. She scored a hat-trick in the opening games between Brazil and Jamaica. She became the oldest player in World Cup history to record a hat trick while also becoming only the ninth player in the history of the women's tournament to score 10 career goals in the event.

6. Carli Lloyd

Carli is a 36 year old American midfielder. She is a two-time Olympic gold medalist (2008 and 2012), 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup champion, two-time FIFA Player of the Year (2015 and 2016) and a three-time Olympian (2008, 2012, 2016). She co-captains with Alex Morgan in the USA national women’s team.

She scored in her first two games of the tournament; one against Thailand and two against Chile. She became the first player to score in six straight Women's World Cup games. She currently holds 4th position on the number of goals scored in the current Womens World Cup (WWC).

7. Cristiana Girelli

Cristiana is a 29 year old Italian football striker, currently playing for Juventus F.C. Women, who she joined in 2018 after five seasons with ACF Brescia Femminile in Serie A. She was the second top scorer of the 2014–15 championship with 27 goals. In the current WWC, she scored a total of  3 goals gaining her the fifth position in the most scored goals in the tournament. During 16s qualifier games, Cristiana scored a hattrick in a 5-0 win against Jamaica, securing a position for Italy in the 16s.

8. Christine Manie

The 35 year old Cameroonian central defender, although she has not scored in the on-going tournament, she scored the goal that qualified Cameroon  into the 2019 FIFA WWC. She did the same in the 2015 games, gaining Cameroon qualification into the world cup for the first time.

At club level, she plays for Romanian Superliga club CFF Olimpia Cluj.

9. Wendie Renard

Wendie is a 28 year old French central defender, she plays and captains both Division 1 Féminine club Olympique Lyon and the France women's national team.

Wendie has scored a total of 3 goals throughout the tournament.

10. Kosovare Asllani

Kosovare, nicknamed “Kosse” is a 29 year old Swedish professional football player. A proficient stricker, possessing great speed and technique in her game.

She scored a goal in the opening game between Sweden and Thailand securing them a 5-0 win.
