‘’Valentine’s is coming...where is your boyfriend?’’

Valentine’s day is one of the toughest days for the singles but also the most exciting day for lovebirds.

Although you are meant to express your commitment to one another every other day, there is just something special about February the 14th.

And because of how we have been conditioned over the years to associate this day with love and couples, it can hit hard.

I don’t know whether it’s FOMO (fear of missing out) or seeing people coupled up while you just had a nasty breakup or having to endure soapy love songs on radio and everything surrounding romance for 24 hours, it can get to you.

The last two years however have been a bit shaky with the pandemic and all so we haven’t been that eager to celebrate some of our favorite holidays like we did before.

But this year, things seem to be looking up and there is a bit of excitement and anticipation of what this day will bring our way.

If you hope to do something special for each other this is how you and your partner can have a bomb valentine’s day:

Do something new

Doing the same thing over and over again can slowly dull the spark in your relationship. At some point, your partner can predict what you will do and it becomes hard to figure out what you can gift each other.

For a change, you should brainstorm on what new activities you can both try together.

Challenge yourselves to get out of your comfort zone because that is how you will create some of the best memories together.

Take things to the next level

Solidifying your relationship on valentine’s day is probably one of the best ways to keep the fire burning. Most couples pass through different stages from the officially dating stage all the way to family introductions and proposals.

If you have been trying to settle on a date when you can openly express your love by proposing or making any other serious commitment, February 14th is the day to do it.

Sure, you can choose any day of the year but if you really want to make the whole process and day even more romantic and special for the two of you, this is the chance to ask her out, become official and exclusive, propose or say ‘I do’.

Surprise each other

Some couples like to plan on how they would like to spend this special day whether it’s making dinner reservations or having movie night at home.

Yes, it is a fun way of enjoying yourselves because you already know what to expect but, what if this year you opt for a more spontaneous celebration?

Spontaneity brings mystery and depth into your relationship which could spark some new excitement especially if you have been together for so long and things are starting to become monotonous.

Go for a photoshoot

Although couples take photos all the time, nothing can compare to a proper photoshoot. You have a chance to dress up for each other and you can even decide to have the photos framed or keep them in your photo album for the memories.

Taking photos together is a way of celebrating the love you have and having them done professionally makes it even more special.

Revive your valentine’s traditions

As we grow older, there is less time for fun and games. The responsibilities start to pile up especially when the kids come and work schedules become tighter.

As all that is going on, you start to forget all the fun things you did when you started dating. Maybe you always watched your favorite movie over and over again while enjoying some wine or loved to put up corny valentine’s decorations together.

This year, you should try and make time to do the things you used to love doing with your significant other on this particular day.

That is a sure way to reignite what was forgotten and will in the process jump start and strengthen your bond.
