Lawyer Cecil Guyana Miller has sued a media house for defamation.

Miller claims the media house defamed him using words that were understood by right thinking members of the public to mean that he beats his wife.

He is seeking compensation in terms of general damages for libel, aggravated and exemplary damages.

In a case filed at the High Court registry on March 4, Miller says the words also meant that he is violent, not fit to hold public office and does not respect his wife.

Miller also claims that the February 23 publication meant that he should be shunned and avoided by right thinking members of society.

He has filed the case through PW Wena & Company Advocates.

ÒBy reason of the premises, the plaintiff has been injured by the said malicious publication in his credit, career and reputation has been brought to public scandal odium and contempt,Ó the company says.

The application is on grounds that the media house did not allegedly care to substantiate or prove the allegations contained in the publication.

ÒThe plaintiff is in fact happily married, has never been arrested, charged or convicted of the offence of battery or assault against anyone,Ó the law firm says.
