Nairobi pastor raped me, touched my privates with candle- Woman

 John Owuor Oduor in court.

A Nairobi pastor has been charged with rape.

Police said the accused, John Owuor Oduor, who refers to himself as a Prophet, inserted two candles inside a woman’s privates before raping her.

The offence is alleged to have been committed inside his church, Gift Church of Israel, on November 9.

The woman claimed that since she was a new member joining the church, she was told that was the first step of cleansing her.

According to the prosecution, Oduor claimed he had been directed by the Holy Spirit and that the complainant was facing a lot of problems including frequent fatigue.

For this reason, he is said to have asked her to buy four packets of black and white candles, and four pieces of red and black clothes that were to be used during prayers.

The court heard that the complainant was accompanied by a friend to the church and were both ushered into a room where the prayers began in earnest. But at some point, the complainant claimed, the man of God sent her friend outside and remained with her inside the prayer room.

According to police, Oduor asked the woman to lie on a piece of cloth, lifted her dress and started touching her private parts with the candles, but he was interrupted by the complainant’s friend.

It is alleged that Oduor sent her away for a second time before resuming his the ‘prayer’ session. The court heard that Oduor asked the woman to undress so he could bless her private parts, promising it will give her strength.

Police said Oduor tore the woman’s panties and raped her. He then gave back the candles to the complainant with more instructions and dismissed her.

The suspect denied the charges when he was arraigned in court and was released on Sh300,000 cash bail.

His case will be heard on February 11, 2019.
