845 patients are currently admitted with Covid-19 in various health facilities countrywide while 2,405 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.
123 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 33 of whom are on ventilatory support and 87 on supplemental oxygen. Three other patients are on observation.
Another 59 patients are on supplementary oxygen with 41 of them are in general wards and 18 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe had earlier stressed on home-based isolation and care saying that hospitals are stretched. He also asked county governments to increase ICU beds. When he made the remarks on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, Kenya has recorded a positivity rate of 17.1 per cent with 754 patients admitted.
1,274 new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in Kenya out of a sample size of 7,240, a positivity rate of 17.5 percent.
The cumulative caseload now stands at 120,163 out of 1,409,720 tests conducted since March 2020 when the first case was reported.
The country has lost 12 more people to the coronavirus raising the death toll to 1,994. Five deaths were reported in the last 48 hours and another seven from an ongoing audit of county records which occurred on diverse dates.
120 patients have recovered from the disease with 75 from various health facilities and 45 are from the Home-Based and Isolation Care. Total recoveries now stand at 89,508.
On Friday, Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi said, “Many people who are contracting the virus are not getting it from outsiders but from the community.”
“There is need for us to exercise safety precautions in order to curtail the virus,” she advised.
