Wired and wireless bras are one of the oldest nemeses in the history of undergarments.
Reason? Everyone cuts their own coat according to their cloth.
The issue of comfort as well as women’s health has been dragged into the fight and people wonder which one is better for them.
I’m certain the debate between the two will never end but at least we’re here to bring out some of the facts about them. Whichever you settle on, that’s on you.
Difference between the two
Like the names suggest, a wired bra has a thin metal wire that sits at the bottom of each cup. With non-wired bras, there’s no metal wire under each cup. That’s the main difference between the two because both can be padded or non-padded and everything else is more or less the same as far as functionality is concerned.
Why are the wired ones more popular?
The wired bras win the popularity contest. Even when you’re shopping for bras, it’s easier to find the wired ones. Many of us aren’t fans of the non-wired bras because they just don’t have the same support, glamorous feel as the wired ones and they are associated with maternity wear mostly. Although the wireless designs are improving over time, I’m still not sure that we’re all ready to give them a chance just yet.
Which one gives more support?
Back support is important when it comes to bras. You can end up with chronic back pain and soreness as a result which isn’t great at all. Wired bras give good support especially if you’re a cup size above B. But if you have the really large cup size, you can get better support with wireless bras. Aside from back support, wireless bras are a good option for pregnant women because they don’t dig into the belly like wired bras. If you have just undergone a surgery around that area, you’ll get more comfort with the non-wired bras.
Why is the wired bra the confidence booster?
Another major reason why women prefer them is because they don’t make you look saggy or flat. They lift and give you a better shape which actually improves your self-image when you’re out in public. It’s also hard to get that same push-up design with non-wired bras. The type of bra you wear definitely has a part to play when you want to flatter your curves.
Am I at risk of cancer?
No, you’re not. I’m not sure where this whole rumor of cancer scares with wired bras came from. This is actually why many women made the shift to non-wired bras. The argument that underwire causes cancer is baseless and there’s no scientific proof that it’s true at all.
That said, the right bra for you all comes down to preference at the end of the day. You might as well own both so you can have the option of switching things up whenever you feel like.
Either way, with both types of bras you still have to ensure that you choose the right size by taking your measurements so that you reduce your risk of developing back problems and for general comfort.
