Akasha Baktash Akasha, the son of convicted drug baron Baktash Akasha, who is serving 25 years jail term in the United States, has been charged with four counts of robbery with violence.
Baktash Akasha was charged with robbing two people of valuables worth over Sh134,000 in Mombasa County's Nyali area while armed with a kitchen knife and a hammer.
Akasha, who had no legal representation, denied the charges before Senior Resident Magistrate David Odhiambo.
Akasha is charged with robbing Derrick Gikanga Wanjiku Sh3,000 and Techno Camon 19 Pro, a phone valued at Sh41,000, shoes valued at Sh2,500, ear pod valued at Sh1,700 and perfume worth Sh1,300 - all valued at Sh49,500 and also inflicting injuries on his back head.
He is also charged with robbing Naeem Yusuf Mohammed of Sh15,000 and an iPhone valued at Sh70,000 while threatening to harm him.
Akasha is said to have committed the offences on January 29, 2022, at the Voyager Hotel area and on January 6, 2023, at Kenol area in Nyali sub-county.
Prosecution Counsel, Nadrat Mazrui, said they will be relying on the forensic evidence in the case and asked the court to give police three weeks to write a conclusive report.
Mazrui asked the court to impose stringent terms owing to the nature of the offences.
"Owing to the nature of the offence, we ask the court to impose stringent bail terms even as the police prepare a forensic evidence report that will be used in the case," said Mazrui.
Akasha was released on a total bond of Sh1 million with four sureties of a similar amount. The case will be mentioned on February 14.
