GUESTS: 350
VENUE: Brookhaven, Karen, Nairobi

FIRST DATE
SAMMY: We met through a friend during her birthday at Barclays Sports club. I noticed her charming personality. She was filled with energy and was very spiritual and committed to the church. After getting to know each other we decided to have lunch at Café 64, Westlands.
THE PROPOSAL
YVONNE: It happened at Westlands Bavaria Gardens on August 29, 2015 which was Sammy’s birthday. I had organized a surprise birthday party for him. When he was making his gratitude speech, he pulled out the ring in front of everyone.
That was totally unexpected. The feeling of commitment and association with each other in front of family and friends made it really special.
THE BIG DAY
SAMMY: We had a very good wedding planner who helped us all the way and our parents and general family were so supportive. Everyone delivered from the make-up artist, grounds, décor, the whole team was exemplary.
YVONNE: Our color scheme was yellow and white and we went for a classy theme with minimal décor. We had classic bicycles placed on the aisle at the church and reception. We also had an amazing Master of Ceremonies and the live band together with the traditional dancers helped to brighten our day. But confirming the number of people to budget for was a challenge.
ADVICE
YVONNE: Balancing between work and executing items in the ‘to do’ list including premarital counseling sessions was difficult so it is important to have people around you who are solution-oriented and keep you moving. Positive energy is the recipe for success.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS
SAMMY: When the bridal party was dancing, we had a lot of fun and forgot all about the previous arrangement. Our pastor was also inspiring and brought forth the beauty and challenges of marriage in a nice way. Our experience showed us how beautiful life is and it’s how you decide to live it.
HONEYMOON
YVONNE: We went to Diani in South Coast and Watamu in Malindi. The best part of it was the peace and quiet with very good food.
