Grapes are an interesting fruit as they can be consumed in different forms. They can be dried up to form raisins or transformed into jellies, juices or wine.

Winemaking is the process of fermenting grape juice into an alcoholic beverage. Grapes are mainly known for this action and grape wine is one of the luxurious alcoholic beverages.

One fruit contains a number of nutrients whose content varies with every form of grape consumption. Some of the nutrients are copper, Vitamin K, potassium, and antioxidants among others.

Vitamin K takes up about 14 per cent of the nutritional content of a grape and it aids in blood clotting as well as the formation of healthy bones. Potassium helps in lowering blood pressure by simply dilating veins and arteries while copper is involved in energy production.

The highest concentration of antioxidants is found in seed and skin although their concertation differs due to multiple factors among them being variety, maturity and environmental factors.

In addition, there is a class of flavonoids called anthocyanin which is responsible for the fruits' orange, red, blue, pink and purple colours. Studies have shown that the class of the said compounds help prevent and treat brain and heart-related diseases.
