One of the hardest jobs in the house is organizing your closet. You feel like you need everything in your closet when in the real sense you only need a handful of what is in there. Well, now that you are in the house all day and night, you have all the time to clean and organize your closet.

Here are ways you can curate your wardrobe:

Declutter your closet

The first step to creating the perfect closet is by decluttering. This entails sieving through your clothes to determine what is important to you from what is simply filling your space.

First off, take all your clothes out of the closet. This way you can see all your clothes and sift through them in categories. The purpose of putting them is categories is to help you determine which pile has the largest number of pieces. Also, you can now easily determine what you need to buy or what to get rid of. Decluttering includes your shoes and accessories too.

Decluttering can be very stressful especially when you always have an excuse for keeping every item, however, there are simple tricks that can help you through the process. If you haven’t put on a single clothe in more than three months, it needs to go.

Tip: You can then donate the items you have set aside. When you get rid of old clothes you create space for new ones. Also, you can give your friends a call and ask them to swap items.

Capsule items will help you match most of your items without colour clashing
Strive for a capsule wardrobe

A capsule wardrobe is a combination of items that can be matched differently to a variety of outfits. It could be a pair of shoes, one pair of jeans, a white shirt or a blazer. While they are limited, their functions are limitless. Capsule items will help you match most of your items without colour clashing with the rest of the outfit. They easily blend in and will allow you to mix and match thus making use of most of your items.

Tip: In case you don’t have a capsule wardrobe, this is the time to achieve that. Focus on your neutrals and items you use in most of your outfits. You can then make a list of the things you might need to add to your closet to create your capsule wardrobe.

Master your art

Since you have all the time in the world, you can play the matching game. Get your freak on, go wild and experiment with all your clothes. While at it, experiment layering outfits to find out how you can maximize on using most of your pieces.

By experimenting with your clothes, you could discover how to dress in your most underutilized items. Furthermore, you could take this time to find ways of matching one clothe in different ways, for example how to put on a basic white shirt in different ways.

Tip: When it comes to fashion, it is all about testing the limits. You don’t have to put on an outfit on the exact way you bought it to be worn.

Store your most used items at eye level

The reason why your closet probably does not stay organized is because you store your most used clothes the furthest. Every morning you have to turn your closet upside down searching for that one stocking or blouse. We all have those clothes we are biased on, those that cannot go a week without being part of an outfit.

Tip: Organize your closet from the most utilized pieces to the least used. This way your closet stays neater for longer.

It’s time for repairs

On normal days, we are always trying to juggle work and downtime with almost no time left to rest, leave alone to repair our clothes.

Now that you are stuck home, you can actually get crafty with your clothes. You finally have the chance to hem your trousers and skirts, probably turn that trouser into a short. Inspect your blouses for loose buttons and fasten them. You can also try out DIY projects on clothes you have been dreaming to refurbish.

Tip: After making repairs on your clothes, remember to wash and iron them. Ironing clothes makes them look as good as new.
