Stella Mwangi aka STL, a Kenyan singer of international repute, will accompany family members as they fly in the body of her father Jeff Mwangi who died in Norway.

The body is scheduled to arrive at the Jomo

Kenyatta International Airport at 7am.

Mwangi, a former political activist, died in Dal Ullensaker, Norway on January 31 after being knocked down by a hit-and-run car whose driver has since been charged with manslaughter.

A team organising the burial of the fallen political asylum seeker confirmed to MondayBlues that the burial scheduled to take place at his ancestral home in Maragua, Muranga County according to his wishes.

Relatives, comrades and friends of have been meeting daily at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi and at his parents’ homestead to raise funds and finalise the ultimate send off.

"Members of the Jeff Mwangi Kwirikia funeral committee are appealing for assistance to raise funds and other material resources to provide a decent and dignified send off for our departed comrade," a statement from the burial committee read in part.

"You can send your donations directly to an account for this purpose at Harambee Avenue Branch of Equity Bank (Account name Jeff Mwangi Kwirikia Funeral, 0240198805092)," the plea read. Mwangi was among 70 university students from the Nairobi and Kenyatta universities arrested in the wake of the abortive coup organised by the defunct Kenya Air Force on August 1, 1982. At the time of his arrest, he was a third year student at Kenyatta University.

He left prison in 1986, having served his sentence with remission. In 1991 he was forced to seek political asylum in Oslo, Norway where he lived until his demise.

Kalonzo’s date with Miss Kenya ‘Bata’

In a rather jovial outing at Laico Regency Hotel, reigning Miss Kenya crown holder Susan Anyango hosted Vice President,

Kalonzo Musyoka, to a cocktail date during which the beauty queen was endorsed the Bata brand ambassador.

The evening beauty galore was attended by the Miss World, Kenya, franchise holder and Ashleys Beauty and Saloons CEO, Terry Mungai, and Bata Managing Director, Nasir Rafiq, among others.

"It is a great privilege for me to be appointed the ambassador for Bata, the leading shoe brand, which is not only comfortable and fashionable but also affordable," the 19-year-old beauty queen remarked.

"This is a great endorsement for the reigning queen and we thank Bata for the support they have offered the Miss World, Kenya, event over the years. Other corporates and government institutions should extend the same spirit in support of the event and our brand would be a big name in the international arena," Mungai challenged.

50 Cent scrutinised at JKIA

American rapping icon and business mogul Curtis Jackson III a.k.a 50 Cent was no exemption to thorough security scrutiny at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) as he left Nairobi on Thursday.

With terror threats bedevilling the country thanks to Somali’s Al Shabaab rebel group, the celebrated hip-hop star and his entourage was not exempted from the rigorous security search.

However, the Get Rich or Dye Tryn’ singer had no issues with the stringent airport checks. Instead, he wore a broad smile and kept chatting with officers at the boarding area marvelling about the beauty of the continent and his zeal to help alleviate poverty in the region.

Working under United Nations humanitarian organisation World Food Programme (WFP), 50 Cent spent the better part of last week in Kenya and made a visit to Somalia on a hunger alleviation campaign.
