President Kibaki has declared tomorrow, Thursday November 6, 2008, a public holiday to celebrate Barack Obama’s victory as the 44th President of the United States.
The President joined other Heads of State, diplomats and ordinary citizens to congratulate Obama as the world raptured in song and dance to the news that he had captured the White House.
In a statement posted on the website of the Office of Public Communications, Government Spokesman Dr Alfred Mutua said Kenyans were very proud of Obama’s victory.
"Things will never be the same again and we can walk with our heads lifted higher and our hearts full of the spirit of success and improvement in the way the world operates," said Mutua.
Meanwhile, the Kenya National Examinations Council has confirmed that ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations would go on uninterrupted. Mr Paul Wasanga, the council secretary and Chief Executive Officer, said because of logistical reasons, it was impossible to interrupt the examinations.
