Taking care of your breasts is crucial for overall health and well-being. Here are some practical and fun tips for women of all ages to ensure their breasts stay healthy and happy.

Bra fitting, find your perfect match

Your bra should fit just right and support you without causing any discomfort. Professor Belén Merck, a breast cancer surgeon, emphasises, “The correct bra is the bra that has the correct size.” Opt for bras with wide straps and steer clear of those with wires.

Eat your veggies, move your body

A healthy diet and regular exercise are your breast’s best friends. Fill your plate with colourful fruits and veggies, and cut down on processed foods. “Try to walk every day, it is not expensive and everybody can do it.” Dance, hike or take a brisk walk, just keep moving.

Make check-ups a regular date

Routine check-ups are essential for early detection of any issues. Think of them as regular dates with your health. Prof Merck stresses the importance of routine screenings, especially for women with a family history of breast cancer. “The best method for the early detection of breast cancer is a mammogram. This is overall the best way to reduce mortality,” she explains.

Sip smart and stay balanced

Limiting alcohol and maintaining a healthy weight are key to reducing breast cancer risk. Drink in moderation and focus on balanced, nutritious meals.

Be cautious with hormone replacement therapy (HRT)

If you’re considering HRT, have a heart-to-heart with your doctor. “Hormone replacement therapy can increase the risk of breast cancer if not properly managed,” warns Prof Merck.
