Covid-19 vaccinations hit 17 million mark

The government is 10.2 million shy of hitting the 27 million national Covid-19 vaccination target by the end of this year.

This is after 20,979 people out of 38,858 received full vaccination in the last 24 hours.

The new figures take the total number of those who have received the jab to above the 17 million mark.

So far, 17, 004, 428 people have reportedly received the jab as of March 9, according to the ministry. Of these, 7,902,418 got the first dose while 7,776,554 are fully vaccinated.

The uptake of the second dose is at 64.5 per cent while the proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 28.5 per cent

The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.

In the last 24 hours,  three people succumbed to the virus with 11 positive cases. The three deaths now take the total number of fatalities to 5,644.

Eight of the 11 positive cases (ten men and one woman) were Kenyans while three are foreigners.

The youngest patient is a 26-year-old while the oldest is 87 years.

Total confirmed positive cases now stand at 323,140 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 3,423,203.

In terms of County distribution; Nairobi and Nakuru had four cases each while Kiambu, Kwale and Uasin Gishu 1 registered a case each.

On the other hand, 200 patients who were on home-based and isolation care recovered, pushing the number of total recoveries to 317,465.

A total of 27 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide while 247 are under the home-based isolation and care program.

One patient is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is on ventilatory support while four others are on supplemental oxygen and all of them are in the general wards.

No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
