Nurses have issued a 14-day strike notice to the county administration.
In a letter written to the county secretary by the Kenya National Union of Nurses (Knun), nurses have threatened to down their tools at the beginning of January next year if several key issues affecting them are not addressed.
"Over 300 nurses in Nandi County will be downing their tools at the end of 14 days to ensure the county addresses issues affecting the nursing fraternity," said Nandi Branch Knun Secretary General Amos Ng'etich.
Top on the nurses' list of demands is the implementation of "due promotions", which they claim was being "sabotaged and unnecessarily delayed" by the county government.
Nurses also want payment of salary arrears to Economic Stimulus Programme nurses and outstanding travel allowances to nursing staff who attended scientific conferences.
Knun further wants the immediate hiring of new staff after complaining of being overworked due to an acute shortage of nursing staff in the county.
Efforts by The Standard to reach senior health officials in the county over the impending industrial action were fruitless.
